Fernbank will be open LATER this summer with a limited summer series blending science, culture and community into an evening unlike anything else in the city. We’re mixing it up with chill museum nights, including access to all exhibits and WildWoods, fun games, drinks, light bites and a social hour worth showing up for.
One Friday a month from June through August, doors will be open from 6 to 9 p.m., transforming Fernbank into more than just a museum—with interactive games and exclusive after-hours access to special exhibits. Sip cocktails or nonalcoholic libations from pop-up bars in the Great Hall, enjoy small bites from Fernbank Café and explore the museum in a relaxed social setting, free from the daily hubbub of field trips.
In the kick-off event, Grand Slam Science, LATER unites the culture of team spirit with the science of sports. Get ready for Major League Baseball’s All-Star Week and enjoy a variety of activations and games from our participating partners: Atlanta Braves, Atlanta Vibe, Georgia Swarm and Gwinnett Stripers. From throwing pitches to photo opportunities, there is so much to look forward to.
Additionally, guests can view our special exhibits for the summer season:
Spirit Guides: Fantastical Creatures from the Workshop of Jacobo and María Ángeles
On view through Aug. 3, 2025
Where mythology and art collide! Venture to Fernbank Forest to explore large-scale sculptures that blend the folklore and spiritual traditions of Southern Mexico.
Turtles
On view from June 7 through Sept. 1, 2025
Meet live turtles from across the globe and discover their fascinating behaviors. Live animal encounters will be presented throughout the evening with trained instructors who will discuss turtle habitats, diets, behavioral instincts, reproduction processes and conservation efforts.
Extinct & Endangered: Insects in Peril
On view from Aug. 9 through Nov. 2, 2025
A story told through stunning large format macrophotographs by Levon Biss, this exhibit highlights 19 endangered or extinct insect species. Biss’ breathtaking photographs, measuring 6 ft. wide by 4 ft. tall, reveal intricate, often unseen details of these fascinating creatures.
Fernbank Museum is perfect for those looking for a chill nighttime experience that’s outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown traffic, yet still close to the heart of the city. We are right around the corner from neighborhoods like Virginia Highlands, Grant Park, Downtown Decatur, East Atlanta and Little 5 Points.
Don’t miss out on a chance to try something new! To find out more information, please visit Fernbank...but LATER.
