Explore your Senses at Fernbank After Dark

Looking for a fun night out? If you’re 21 or older, Fernbank After Dark is the place to be! Enjoy themed cocktails, tasty bites and hands-on activities as the museum comes alive after hours. Mark your calendar for Friday, September 12, from 7–11 p.m., and get ready for sensory surprises, scientific discoveries, and just the right amount of questionable puns.

This month’s theme, Sense and Sense-ability, dives into the world of the five senses—challenging you to see, taste, touch, smell, and hear in new ways. Sip on creative cocktails that wake up your taste buds, test your touch and sight with quirky experiments, and discover how science can delight every sense.

But don’t just take our word for it—find out why visitors can’t get enough of Fernbank After Dark!

Check out a sneak peek at some activities and cocktails that are guaranteed to get your senses tingling:

Sight: Watch our mixologists experiment with acids and bases to create a color-changing cocktail known as the Butterfly Tom Collins.

Taste: Put your taste buds to the test with our Spicy Watermelon Margarita featuring ghost pepper-infused tequila for that extra spicy kick!

Sound: Relax your mind by crafting your very own rain maker that mimics the sound of falling rain when tilted.

Touch: Explore the world of Braille and try your hand at our mystery boxes.

Scent: Put your nose to the test at our Tea Bag Match station—can you identify the teas without peeking?

But wait there’s more...

Fernbank After Dark includes full access to the museum, an immersive giant screen film and entry to our special exhibits.

Extinct and Endangered: Insects in Peril

Now on view in WildWoods, this powerful photography exhibit highlights the urgent extinction crisis threatening insect populations while showcasing their beauty and significance.

Lost in Sight: In Search of the Flint’s Headwaters

Captured through the lens of photographer Virginie Drujon-Kippelen, this exhibit traces the nearly invisible origins of the Flint River as it flows through the hills of the Georgia Piedmont to the Florida Panhandle.
