“Winter Wonderland” Returns for its 15th Year at Fernbank
The winter exhibit is on view Nov. 23, 2024 – Jan. 12, 2025.
ATLANTA, Oct. 22, 2024 — The seasonal cultural exhibit “Winter Wonderland: Celebrations & Traditions Around the World,” returning for its 15th year, opens at Fernbank Museum on Nov. 23, 2024, and runs through Jan. 12, 2025. Guests can enjoy the holidays and other celebrations through two floors of decorated trees and display cases that highlight cultural objects, events and traditions from around the world.
Through the use of arts, crafts, symbols and ornamental displays from Atlanta cultural partners, including local community organizations and international consulates, “Winter Wonderland” tells engaging stories that allow visitors to learn about the more than 25 countries represented from across the globe. Some of this year’s cultural partners represent countries such as Argentina, Canada, Germany, Ghana, Norway, Japan, India, Mexico, Peru, Turkey, the Philippines, Switzerland and more.
“We are so excited to be celebrating Winter Wonderland’s 15th anniversary with our returning and new cultural partners,” said exhibit curator Dr. Bobbi Hohmann. “This is truly a collaborative exhibition that highlights the rich cultural diversity and traditions of so many members of our vibrant community.”
Numerous cultural partners have and continue to be represented in “Winter Wonderland” over the years. Since the exhibit’s inception in 2010, Fernbank has had more than 400 displays coordinated by our cultural partners from six continents, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America and South America.
Visitors can view “Winter Wonderland” while they explore the museum, and they can follow a scavenger hunt that provides images of select items on display for visitors to locate. Whether it’s a hand-made doll, straw star, colorful country flag, butterflies or carved wooden figures, there will be something of interest for all ages.
“Winter Wonderland” will also light up the museum after hours during the nighttime, immersive experience, WildWoods: AGLOW, as well as during Fernbank After Dark in December and January.
Additionally, the animated artistic series, 68 Voices, will return to Fernbank this winter. Narrated in 68 Mexican indigenous languages, this illustrated exhibit highlights the cultural treasures and heritage behind the tales of an indigenous community rich in traditions that celebrate diversity. This exhibit can be found lining the second floor of the museum.
Lead support for cultural learning is provided by Nissan Foundation.
