Assistant Security Manager- Full Time

Job Summary: The Assistant Manager of Security is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Security Department. This position is expected to oversee Fernbank Museum’s unique security needs while maintaining a positive interface with the public. This position will interact with, and support Fernbank staff as needed. 

Major Functions:

  • Assist with overall public safety and security for the entire Fernbank campus, to include other properties managed by Fernbank.
  • Responsible for the proper training of all MSO’s including preparation of training reports.
  • Demonstrate Leadership and Responsibility to all MSO’s
  • Complete Department Training for all MSO’s
  • Monitor and Record all MSO training performance
  • Perform routine campus patrol to identify existing and/ or potential issues as well as to observe Security Department personnel performance, taking appropriate action as necessary.
  • Monitor and respond to incidents concerning damage or safety concerns to person or property
  • Prepare daily reports identifying issues and corrective actions taken.
  • Assist with maintenance of security incident database.
  • To assist the Security Manager with his/her responsibilities related to being the liaison between Security and Department Heads.
  • Address or assist with any emergency issues that occur
  • Act as “Manager on Duty” to oversee and manage staff during evening events and on weekends.
  • Monitor the activity of all security systems, including cameras, gates and building access points. Promptly report any issues or concerns.
  • Work closely with the Security Manager in establishing, monitoring, and enforcing Fernbank’s security and safety guidelines and compliance with related municipal and/or state codes.

Skills/ Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in an area of study relevant to this position and/or at least 3 - 5 years of general experience in the field or in a related area desired.
  • Minimum one year successful organizational and supervisory experience
  • Basic computer skills
  • Proven ability to deal effectively with the public in emergency situations and to apply these practices to a private organization; strategic orientation with ability to act tactically as required a plus.
  • Ability to physically patrol (walk, run, climb) property in all weather conditions as necessary and to respond to situations in a timely, professional, and appropriate manner as required
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Driver’s license to drive FMNH vehicles

Exhibits Technician, Full-Time

Job Summary
The Exhibits Technician assists in routine exhibit maintenance and production, including basic repairs, monitoring, construction, installation/deinstallation and preparation work for temporary and long-term exhibits at Fernbank. The Exhibits Technician will work collaboratively with other staff as directed to ensure exhibit components are maintained at the highest level for positive guest experiences.

Essential Functions  

  • Perform routine exhibit maintenance, including case cleaning, troubleshooting computer and video interactives.
  • Perform basic repairs of physical exhibits, which may require various repair and construction techniques. When required, source parts or equipment to complete repairs.
  • Assist with exhibit installation and deinstallation both indoors and outdoors. Including crate movement and packing and unpacking, lighting, A/V and computer component hook up, graphics and exhibit component placement.
  • Assist with carpentry and painting jobs as required.
  • Troubleshoot any electrical and mechanical that may arise in exhibits to determine cause and recommend corrective action. Collaborate with the Facilities and IT departments as needed.
  • Participate in project teams and provide technical and creative advice and support as needed.
  • Maintain exhibit cases, materials, tools and spare parts inventories in well-organized manner.
  • Other projects and responsibilities as needed and assigned to support overall goals of the department and museum.

Required Skills

  • Experience with general construction or carpentry and painting
  • Knowledge of and general experience with AV technology repairs
  • Comfortable working with a wide variety of power tools and workshop equipment, including table saw, skill saw, router, etc.
  • Must be able to comfortably lift at least 50 pounds and climb ladders up to 20 feet high.
  • Proven expertise or work experience with emphasis on design, museum studies, fine arts, or in a related specific trade/skill. Prior experience working in a museum or gallery environment a plus
  • Valid Georgia driver's license
  • Evening and weekend work required. Schedule will be Tuesday-Saturday with 2-3 evenings a month required November through early March.

Front Office Agent

Job Summary:
The Front Office Agent will generally be the first Fernbank Museum employee that guest encounter.  It is therefore imperative that all employees in the Front Office be polite, courteous, and professional at all times.  Agents must always display a genuine concern for the needs of all visitors and must be willing to exhaust all efforts to ensure that each museum guest has a joyful and memorable visit.  Agents must also possess the necessary skills for completing transactions accurately including counting monies received, as each agent is responsible for balancing sales and revenue for their drawer at the end of each day.

Functions:

  • Selling general admission tickets, annual museum memberships and any other special events or programs that the museum offers, in person and over the phone
  • Providing excellent service to each guest
  • Answering questions and directing visitors as needed
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of all museum programming
  • Maintain the appearance of the Front Lobby
  • Additional duties as instructed by the Front Office Supervisor and Senior Manager

Experience Requirements:

  • 1 year of face-to-face customer service experience
  • Flexibility in availability and weekly scheduling
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • 1 year experience in cash handling and processing credit card transactions
  • Able to pass the Cash Handling Aptitude Assessment
  • Abe to work in a fast-paced environment
  • A team player with an eager and positive attitude

Museum Store Sales Associate

Job description
Responsible for the timely processing of all sales in an efficient and friendly manner. Contributes to the efficiency of daily operations and the creation of the proper atmosphere for a successful and profitable store.

Major Functions:

  • Provide excellent customer service by demonstrating friendly and helpful service to all visitors and employees.
  • Operate a cash register, processing all sales transactions quickly and accurately and resolve register related problems in a timely manner.
  • Open and close the Store(s), including making daily deposits and reports.
  • Be knowledgeable about all items sold in the Store(s) as well as general museum information.
  • Maintain proper merchandise display, store cleanliness, and adequate stock on hand

Special Event Birthday Party Attendant - Part-Time 

Job Description

The Birthday Party Attendant is responsible for serving as the host for party patrons. The primary role of this position is to ensure an excellent experience for all birthday guests by providing safe clean venues and friendly service.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service and ensure excellent guest experiences at all children’s birthday parties.
  • Provide general event support during birthday parties such as answer any questions
  • Greet guests and escort them to the party area.
  • Greets and constantly has a visible presence in the assigned birthday party area to attend to the party hosts and party guests.
  • Prepare party area and table(s) with required supplies.
  • Deliver food, drink, and any additional materials to birthday party guests to the private party room
  • Reset private room between parties.
  • Complete end of party paperwork with parent(s) which includes a review of the contract.
  • Ensures that all birthday party areas are cleaned and set up for each party and cleaned afterward in preparation for the next day at the end of shift
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the Museum.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Education/and or Experience:

  • Must be aged 18 or older. 
  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Hospitality and or experience with children a plus

  • Ability to work in a face-paced environment.
