Education Facilitator - Part Time

Education Facilitators monitor and interpret exhibits for guests, including opening and closing exhibits, periodic cleaning and resetting of components, and providing guests with educational interpretation of the exhibit content. Facilitators create a welcoming and safe environment for all guests to enjoy. Occasionally, Facilitators will lead basic science demonstrations during special events like Fernbank After Dark adult science nights, family Discover Days, and Museum Chills and Thrills evening events. This job requires weekend and evening availability. This job may also require some outdoor work on occasion.


  • Monitor Fernbank’s indoor and sometimes outdoor exhibit spaces, assisting with opening, closing, and periodic component resets and cleaning
  • Create a welcoming environment by greeting guests, providing assistance as needed, and interpreting exhibit content for visitors
  • Assist with preparations for educational programs, including activity set-up and facilitation on family event days
  • Present science demonstrations during monthly evening events like Fernbank After Dark or Museum Chills and Thrills
  • Greet guests, orient groups, maintain safe and attractive environment, and assist guests with interactive components
  • Assist the Education Department with other tasks and duties as assigned

Junior Graphic Designer (FT)

Job Summary

The Junior Graphic Designer will work in conjunction with and report to the Senior Graphic Designer. Responsibilities include creating design solutions that have a high visual impact across a variety of projects, in both print and digital formats. The Junior Graphic Designer will be responsible for integrating key art from existing exhibits and giant screen movies to fit within the Fernbank brand identity, working with internal museum departments to concept and design requested graphics, and communicating clearly with staff and external representatives. This is a hybrid role, with at least 3 days in the office weekly.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design collateral for Fernbank’s various departments, with a focus on Marketing.
  • Integrate existing key art from traveling exhibits and giant screen movies into digital and print graphics for various applications.
  • Conceptualize, update, and design graphics for the Fernbank brand, including fun family-centered events, special science-themed adult nights, membership and donor events, brochures, presentations, and more.
  • Ensure all graphics adhere to brand standards and maintain consistency. Proof materials for errors before submitting for review.
  • Work closely with the Senior Graphic Designer in improving workflow and creating new processes to make tasks as efficient as possible.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining assets, including photos, design files, and videos.
  • Contribute to brainstorming sessions, research, and ideation.
  • Routinely check on graphics throughout the museum to ensure accuracy and efficacy; collaborate with staff to edit or change as needed.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned to help Fernbank reach its goals.


  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design or equivalent professional experience; 1-2 years of relevant work experience.
  • Proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite, primarily InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365, primarily Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills, with an ability to multi-task.

Marketing Coordinator

Job Summary

The Marketing Coordinator is an essential contributor to Fernbank’s marketing and communications department. This team member will be integral to helping represent and steward Fernbank’s brand. The marketing coordinator will be responsible for reviewing marketing support requests, assigning tasks in Asana, , submitting ads to media outlets, monitoring inventory of printed materials, keeping projects on deadline, and bidding and managing production projects. This Marketing Coordinator works very closely with each member of the marketing staff as well as with multiple other teams across the organization.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Plan, record and assign tasks department-wide and among collaborating departments to ensure all marketing and design projects are prepared and scheduled to go live on deadline.
  • Input job requests into Asana and assign deadlines both within the marketing and communications department and for other supporting departments.
  • Manage ad chart, including transcribing details from contracts to keep track of deadlines, assigning copy and design tasks, and submitting completed ads and urls to media outlets before deadline
  • Contribute to Fernbank’s social media and website content as well as copywriting for ads.
  • Liaise with other departments on projects that require marketing support, for example: direct mail, large events, print projects, development of new creative assets, special events, donor and member communications, and more.
  • Manage relationships with printers and coordinate print jobs.
  • Assist with research projects, including competitive analysis, emerging marketing trends and new digital media capabilities.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned to help Fernbank reach goals.


  • Experience managing projects with Asana or a similar project management software system.
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree, or three to five years of relevant work experience
  • Proficient in all programs affiliated with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Strong written, verbal and communications skills, including AP Style or Business Writing.
  • Organization and acute attention to detail.

Museum Store Sales Associate

Job description
Job Summary: Responsible for the timely processing of all sales in an efficient and friendly manner. Contributes to the efficiency of daily operations and the creation of the proper atmosphere for a successful and profitable store.

Major Functions:

  • Provide excellent customer service by demonstrating friendly and helpful service to all visitors and employees.
  • Operate a cash register, processing all sales transactions quickly and accurately and resolve register related problems in a timely manner.
  • Open and close the Store(s), including making daily deposits and reports.
  • Be knowledgeable about all items sold in the Store(s) as well as general museum information.
  • Maintain proper merchandise display, store cleanliness, and adequate stock on hand
  • Aid in keeping store management informed as to merchandise and supply needs.
  • Assist with receiving orders including counting, tagging and stocking merchandise on the Store(s) floor and helping to organize backstock in the Stock Rooms.
  • Help with taking physical inventory
  • Perform all other store related functions as needed and other duties as assigned.

Security Officer, Part-Time

This position is under the direct supervision of the Security Chief, Assistant Manager of Security and when appropriate, the Security Shift Supervisor. As a member of the Security Department, this individual is responsible for the protection, safeguarding and security of all Fernbank Museum of Natural History guests, patrons, staff, volunteers, collections and assets. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.
Essential Functions

Summer Camp Counselor

Job Summary:

Summer Camp Counselors will work alongside Fernbank Museum’s permanent staff to implement an engaging and fun day camp for campers between 5 – 13 years old. Counselors will assist with science-related games and activities, camper management, and a variety of camp-related projects. Counselors act as positive role models for campers, encouraging them to grow and learn through challenges in a fun, safe, indoor and outdoor learning environment. Summer Camp Counselors will also help with other duties in the Education Department as needed. Summer Camp Counselors should be available to work set hours each day, Monday to Friday, between May 25 and August 6.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist staff in preparations and implementation for daily camp activities
  • Learn and lead pre-developed activities for your age group (content and training will be provided the first week on the job)
  • Help sign out campers as they leave each day, and lead activities and games during the AfterCare program
  • Monitor campers throughout the day; lead campers from one location to another (i.e. exhibits, outside, restrooms, etc.)
  • Photograph camp activities and upload photos daily to share with parents
  • Document camp issues as needed, including camper behavior and incidents
  • Complete daily camp set-up, cleanup, and assist with program maintenance when changes are necessary
  • Stay up-to-date on camp notes and changes via regularly scheduled communications from the camp director
  • Provide excellent customer service to all museum guests
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Preferred Experience:

  • Previous experience working with young children, preferably in a group setting
  • Previous experience in education, natural history, environmental education, camps, child care, or related field
  • Previous customer service a plus
  • Background in science or education is a plus

Skills and Attributes:

  • Must be available all dates between May 25 and August 6
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must pass a background check before hire
  • CPR/AED certification highly preferred
  • Must enjoy working with children between the ages of 5 and 13
