Café Attendant, Part-Time

Job Summary
Responsibilities and job duties change from day to day. Activities include, but are not limited to: dish washing, clean-up, stocking, continual maintenance of the café area, set-up of guest dining area, minor food preparation, and overall customer service.

Major Functions:

  • Ensure all guests have an enjoyable experience in the Fernbank Café and throughout the Museum.
  • Assist coworkers throughout the shift to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Maintain supplies of plates, bowls, straws, condiments, etc.
  • Keep Dining Room clean and neatly arranged for guests and staff. Also maintain Terrace and Service Hallway.
  • Start, load and operate dish machine.
  • Store clean dishes and utensils.
  • Clean and maintain beverage station.
  • Break down boxes, empty trash cans, sweep and mop as needed.
  • Clean and organize when needed.

Experience Requirements:

  • One year of food experience in a restaurant or other commercial setting preferred but energetic quick learners are welcome.
  • Knowledge of food safety and cleanliness requirements.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Sense of urgency and ability to multi task.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Friendly attitude.
  • Team player.
  • Flexibility with schedule and ability to work weekdays and weekends, including Friday nights.
  • Ability to move from one task to another quickly and without prompting from supervisor.

Food Service Associate, Part-Time

Job Summary
Works regularly and equally on kitchen responsibilities and line positions depending on schedule

Kitchen Responsibilities

  • Prep and make batch food quantities according to specified recipes and business needs ensuring proper taste and consistency
  • Continual chopping and dicing of vegetables for various recipes
  • Maintains proper par levels for high volume café menu items
  • Makes all sauces for line service
  • Makes chili and variety of soups
  • Maintains organized equipment cages and overall kitchen
  • Frequently organizes dry goods storage areas
  • Continually maintains organization in walk- in refrigerator and walk-in freezer
  • Assists with prep and execution for all special luncheons and events
  • Prep and execution of “Fernbank After Dark” and “Salsa Night” menus
  • Sweeps and mops kitchen floors
  • Ensures all items have been properly stored for catering crews to come in and utilize space

Line Responsibilities

  • Takes and executes orders from café guests
  • Offer positive interaction with guests
  • Maintains clean prep room and line areas throughout day and at closing
  • Gathers all utensils to execute line orders- (spatulas, knives, ladles, portion scoops, towels, and disposables
  • Sets line with adequate amounts of product for the anticipated business for the day
  • Slices tomatoes, slices and portions deli meats, washes and chops lettuces, peels eggs, etc.
  • Cleans panini press, fridge doors, gaskets and cabinet fronts at closing each day
  • Cleans and fills hotbox and line wells water levels as needed
  • Maintains organized storage cabinets and rooms associated with the café line
  • Sweeps line frequently throughout shift then mops line areas and prep room at closing

Front Office Agent, Part-Time

Job Summary
The Front Office Agent will generally be the first Fernbank Museum of Natural History employee visitors encounter. It is therefore imperative that all employees in this department be polite, courteous and professional at all times. Front Office Agents must always display a genuine concern for the needs of all visitors and must be willing to exhaust all efforts to ensure that each visitor has the most enjoyable experience possible. Front Office Agents must also possess the ability to learn and maintain the museum’s cash-handling policies and procedures, as each agent is responsible for balancing sales revenue at the end of each day.

Functions

  • Selling museum, giant screen movie, annual memberships and any other special event/programs that the museum offers.
  • Providing accurate, professional and courteous service to each visitor.
  • Answering questions and directing visitors as required.
  • Maintaining knowledge of all museum programming.

Requirements

  • 1 year of face-to-face customer service skills
  • Flexibility in scheduling
  • Some evening, weekend and holiday season availability
  • 1 year of experience in cash handling and credit card processing

  • Basic computer and internet experience
  • Basic Outlook 365 skills

Maintenance Technician – Full time

Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting in the general upkeep and maintenance of the Museum, and other museum facilities and grounds. Assist the Director of Facilities, Shop Coordinator, Grounds Coordinator on daily tasks and long term projects.

Major Functions:

  • Perform basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical repairs to keep the Museum facilities and equipment in good condition. The equipment includes HVAC equipment, kitchen equipment, plumbing systems, fire alarm system, lighting and electrical systems, and all exhibits.
  • Direct and oversee work performed by custodians and Museum third party technicians.
  • Assist with loading and unloading trucks as well as moving exhibits and other equipment as needed.
  • Set-up, operate, and monitor audiovisual equipment including sound systems and projectors.
  • Start-up and shut-down the building and exhibit systems as required.
  • Train to operate theater and projection equipment and assist the theater staff as needed.
  • Provide support to other Museum departments and fulfill other tasks as assigned.

Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma.
  • Four (4) years experiences in building maintenance.
  • Museum, theater, or carpentry experience will be considered in lieu of maintenance experience.
  • Good verbal communications skills.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Basic maintenance and construction skills. This includes basic carpentry, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs.
  • Ability to self-manage.
  • Ability to safely lift moderately heavy objects.
  • PC knowledge.
  • Operate power tools, fork lifts, aerial lifts, work safely at heights, and have a valid driver’s license.

Security Officer Part-Time

Summary
This position is under the direct supervision of the Security Chief, Assistant Manager of Security and when appropriate, the Security Shift Supervisor. As a member of the Security Department, this individual is responsible for the protection, safeguarding and security of all Fernbank Museum of Natural History guests, patrons, staff, volunteers, collections and assets. Both full-time and part-time positions are available.

Essential Functions

  • Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Performs security patrols.
  • Enforces all security and safety protocols and procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining any and all security department equipment including but not limited to: security systems and alarms, keys, magnetic coded access system.
  • Monitors as assigned: security cameras, computers, and alarm panels.
  • Protects all FMNH property from theft, vandalism, fire and accidents within reason.
  • Investigates and writes reports on accidents, incidents, suspicious activities, safety and fire hazards and any and all other security related situations.
  • Provides any needed assistance to visitors, employees, volunteers and patrons with following the department's procedures.
  • Assists in maintaining OSHA standards throughout the Fernbank Museum campus.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, radios and filing cabinets.
