Golden Opportunity: Botanical Illustration

Discover the world of yellow plants and pigments in this special artistic exhibit. Showcasing both the art and science found in yellow plants, Golden Opportunity: Botanical Illustration features pieces of art created by members of Denver Botanic Gardens’ School of Botanical Art & Illustration, as well as display cases highlighting dried plant materials used in creating yellow dye, from plants to pigment to colored textiles.

Exhibit Highlights

  • Admire artwork created by colored pencils, watercolors, graphite, ink and mixed media.
  • Explore 15 pieces of botanical art (colored pencil, watercolor, graphite, ink and mixed media), featuring the daffodil, Buddha’s hand, sunflower, pansy, tomato and more.
  • Investigate different pigments from plant-based dyes, including turmeric, saffron, Dyer’s rocket, safflower, plains coreopsis and marigold.
  • Watch a video to learn how pollinating insects see yellow.
  • Explore the world of yellow fruits, flowers and vegetables through illustrations.
  • Enjoy this exhibit in both English and Spanish.

Cost: Included with general admission, free for members and free with CityPASS.
