Enjoy Fernbank’s newest special exhibit, featuring the peoples and cultures who benefited from trade on the silk road -- not only from the profitable exchange of commodities, but also from the interchange of new technologies, religions, types of music, literature and ways of thinking.

New Special Exhibit
Travel back in time 1,000 years inside this immersive new experience.

Camel Meet-and-Greet
Get up close and personal to a live Arabian camel from Sam’s Path Petting Zoo.

Silk Painting
Local artist Leslie Rogers Todder will demonstrate silk painting using brilliant dyes and a traditional resist silk painting technique.

Camels: One Hump or Two?
Ever wondered why camels are better than horses in desert climates, or why some camels have one hump and others have two? Here’s your chance to get answers.

Spice Bazaar
Explore spices, some of which were traded on the Silk Road, with world-famous explorer “Navi Gator” and her dad, “Invez T. Gator,” as they help you identify spices and create your own spice mix.

Taste of the Silk Road**
Enjoy a taste from the regions along the Silk Road, featuring samples by Saba.

Silk in the Modern Age
11am and 1pm, Frances Wood Wilson Theater (Limited Seating)
Join DeKalb History Center’s Rebecca Selem and learn about the use of silk in women’s fashion over the centuries right up to modern day.

11:30am, Naturalist Center
Join us for a Middle Eastern folktale in celebration of Traveling the Silk Road special exhibit with scarf-juggling and the book, The Magic Apple.

Cost: Included with museum admission. Members FREE!
