Special Lecture From Fear to Fascination: A Romance with Spiders

Presenter/Lecturer: Dr. Linda S. Rayor, Cornell University; human star of “Monster Bug Wars”; and President of the American Arachnological Society

As a key contributor to Spiders — From Fear to Fascination, Dr. Rayor will share stories about spiders’ unusual biology, including their mating habits and methods for capturing prey. Dr. Rayor will discuss spiders’ importance for both the natural world as well as for humans and surprising industries like medicine and agriculture. Spiders are major predators of pest insects, and their venoms are being adapted for use in medicine and agriculture. Join us to hear hidden stories of the spiders featured in the exhibit.

Lecture tickets do not include museum or giant screen film admission but full Fernbank access prior to the lecture is available with General Admission tickets.
