Join us as we celebrate the new special exhibition Creatures of Light: Nature’s Bioluminescence with a day of family-friendly fun including crafts, hands-on activities and more.

Creatures of Light, Self-Guided Tours
10am – 5pm, Special Exhibition Gallery
Discover the beauty and awe-inspiring science behind thousands of living organisms that blink, glow, flash, and flicker—from the fireflies found in backyards to alien-like fish found in the deep sea.

Anglerfish Hat Craft
10am – 2pm, Great Hall
Anglerfish glow in the deepest, darkest parts of the ocean. Bring them up to dry land with this hat craft.

Animal Adaptations: Why they Glow
10am – 2pm, Great Hall
Match bioluminescent animals to their corresponding adaptations in this fun and educational game.

Glowing Lichen and Minerals
10am – 2pm, Great Hall
They may look ordinary to the naked eye, but these lichen and minerals will glow when viewed under a black light.

Drawing in the Dark
10am – 2pm, The Star Gallery
Write your name, draw a picture or even create your own deep-sea fish and watch it light up instantly on special “glowing” paper.

Coloring Station
10am – 2pm, Great Hall
Have fun coloring bioluminescent creatures with fluorescent crayons.

Tadpole Tales
11:30am, Naturalist Center
Join a Fernbank educator for a special activity or song inspired by Home in the Cave by Janet Halfmann and illustrated by Shennen Bersani.

All Creatures of Light Celebration Day activities are included with Museum admission. Members always free.
