Fernbank Museum and the Artemis guild of young professionals hosted the 16th annual Lost Oasis 2010: A Museum Masquerade on June 12 with approximately 400 masked attendees on hand to enjoy the festivities. Throughout the night, an applause-based mask contest, special “Incognito martinis,” Dames A’flame performers, a silent auction and live music by Kingsized kept the partygoers as active into the late hours as nocturnal geckos during the masquerade event, which was inspired by Fernbank’s special exhibition Geckos: Tails to Toepads.
Lost Oasis 2010: A Museum Masquerade raised approximately $140,000 for children’s programming. Attendees, including Honorary Chairs Nancy and Kenny Blank, and Co-Chairs Lesley and Trey Wainwright and Cathrine Watkins and Patrick Vrana, were treated to delicious cuisine by Proof of the Pudding, which presented four mouth-watering stations that included a Mediterranean bar with coconut shrimp cosmos, tortellini with Caesar salad martinis, molasses-glazed pork loin, crispy chicken lollipops and a variety of other savory delights.
Fernbank’s President and CEO, Susan Neugent, said she was touched by the immense support the Museum continues to receive during times that have been difficult for so many.
“It’s an honor to see so many people working so passionately to empower Fernbank with their support. Now more than ever, it’s important for Fernbank to continue providing the highest-quality programming for children and inspiring an appreciation of the natural world,” Neugent said. “This was also a great opportunity to showcase how the Artemis guild directly supports children’s programming because Lost Oasis 2010 was a bit of an unofficial celebration of the new $8 million children’s exhibition Fernbank will open in the spring.”
