As part of its informal science education programming, Fernbank Museum organizes group trips to explore the biological and cultural diversity of regions in Georgia and beyond.

Each travel season brings a variety of opportunities to join Fernbank scientists for an exploration of our natural world.


Appalachian Region: Track Rock Gap and Brasstown Bald’s Arkaquah Trail
Saturday, October 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Join Fernbank educators for a unique excursion combining archaeology and ecology. Hike from Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s highest peak, and search for the Fringed Gentian—a threatened plant. Then explore Track Rock Gap to learn about North Georgia’s last intact example of rock art (petroglyphs).

Cost: Members: $15 for adults/$5 for children; non-members: $25 for adults/$10 for children. Registration and payment deadline is October 12. Space is limited. To reserve your space, call 404.929.6379 or e-mail programs@fernbank.edu.


Regions of Georgia Travel Program
Coast and Barrier Islands: Escape to Sapelo Island
March 20 – 22, 2009

Plan now for an exclusive opportunity to visit one of Georgia’s coastal gems—Sapelo Island. Join Fernbank educators in an exploration of the rich cultural history as well as the natural shoreline and marshes of Georgia’s fourth largest barrier island.

All Fernbank excursions are appropriate for all ages, but do require a moderate level of fitness. Unless otherwise noted, transportation and meals are not included. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
