Our bodies are home to trillions of microbes living in and on us, including bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other organisms collectively called the human microbiome. Your body contains more microbial cells than human cells—a new perspective that is changing and complicating our view of ourselves. Most of the microbes that live in your body are vital to keeping your digestive system, immune system and brain working properly.
The Secret World Inside You is an engaging, multisensory exhibit that explores the complex world of the human microbiome by investigating good and bad bacteria, and the roles microbes play in our mental and physical health.
This special exhibit covers a range of science topics including microbiology, evolution, human physiology and immunology. Students of all ages will enjoy the interactive activities, videos and vibrant models throughout the exhibit.
