Landscape Paintings by Martin Weinstein
On view through May 2, 2010
The exhibition features 46 original paintings that showcase the beauty of the natural world, including scenic landscapes at times of darkness, stormy weather, springtime vibrancy, early morning sunrise, late afternoon shadows, winter snow and more.
Originally an abstract painter, Weinstein decided to combine his discipline as an abstractionist with his desire to portray and represent the realistic world. Each of his paintings is a composite typically formed by superimposing three clear acrylic panels, layered to create depth and changing perspective. Weinstein adopted the technique of painting on tiered acrylic sheets to build up a visualized surface of “reality.” Although the paintings are deceptively traditional-looking oil landscapes, the process and the pictorial technique are quietly radical.
Illusion and Certainty is included with Museum admission.
